When I was a smartassed lad - back in the '60's - We used to have the CND Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament .. I went on protest rallies - nobody seems much interested now.

Bullets are kinetic projectiles fired from guns by expanding propellant gases .. but you can also "fire" bullets from slingshots or crossbows - air rifles and 'magnetic rail guns'. These projectiles all get their ENERGY from the speed they are moving.

 Towards the end of WWII military scientists developed non-explosive ordnance that could be dumped out of high flying aircraft to freefall, accelerating to deadly velocity.

LAZY DOG Projectiles aka 'Yellow Dog' and 'Red Dot'.

These were dropped onto massed enemy combatents from a great hight in the Korean War and were extensively deployed in VietNam and over Cambodia. These could be packed 10,000 to 17,000 at a time into Mk44 cluster bomb containers - but were also dumped out of helicopters by the bucket-load or just shovelled out, with devastating effect onto unprotected people moving through the jungles below.

When released from high altitudes over 10,000 feet - they can silently reach velocities of 700 feet per second that is 480 miles per hour.

Kinetic weapons are the oldest and most common ranged weapons used in human history, with the projectiles varying from blunt projectiles such as rocks and round shots, pointed missiles such as arrows, bolts, darts, and javelins, to modern tapered high-velocity impactors such as bullets, flechettes, and penetrators. Typical kinetic weapons accelerate their projectiles mechanically by muscle power, mechanical advantage devices, elastic energy or pneumatics or chemical explosives.

When dropped in numbers of more than 17,000 at a time these yield 6 hits per square yard being WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION deployed against populations

Picture this .. It is about 2.00 AM in the dark night and I am stopped at a red light in London, and this E-Type Jaguar pulls-up beside me.

The SixNeedler is VERY interesting as it is very low power and has lawful muzzle energy but when used - the needle-darts penetrate deeply at short ranges, so I doubt any New Zealand politician could resist banning their importation.

A truly democratic and socially responsible administration would recognise that crime is far less an issue in a fairer egalitarian society with good education, healthcare, and justice.

Don't get me wrong on this topic as I'm in full agreement to having some control over WHO may legally own firearms. - A minimum age, a criminal record restriction, any serious mental illness should strictly limit - whereas training and certification should be required. - BUT a FIREARMS LICENCE must be readily accessible, low cost, and Non-Prohibitive in nature.

A Full LIFETIME Firearms Licence used to be something to be proud to have - that marked-out it's holder as an upstanding worthy citizen and fit friendly company for Law Enforcement.

Again, I gleefully point-out that the recorded figures clearly graph that my pet 'mouse gun' caliber .. the 32, was the TOP STOPPING CALIBER .. no doubt this results from the ease of controlling shot placement, - this same feature also similarly applies to the 22 LR.

Indeed - I will opine - even IF all you have, or all you are allowed to have, - is an outdated technology blackpowder non-cartridge gun - you are still be able to defend yourself, property and family as long as you fully understand it's use and technology. Many dangerous animals have been dispatched over many centuries by folk armed with matchlocks, flintlocks, and caplocks .. and before that, by edged weapons, bows and spears etc.

- And, if your circumstances allow .. Greg suggests don't mess about with pistols and revolvers for self defense but use a rifle or a SHOTGUN.

Common Sense strongly indicates that anyone owning, carrying, and shooting any handgun - seriously needs to train and practice with that tool so as to maximise their effectiveness and to eliminate danger to innocent lives.
