The Atomic Scientist's NEW NUKES:

So what's the difference between TACTICAL and STRATEGIC  Nuclear Weapons?

Well .. always bearing in mind that Tactical weapons form part of the overall strategic threat to 'the enemy' (that's you and me) ..

- I'd say that, roughly speakingTACTICAL nuclear weapons are designed for use by the military against other Military Targets. - whereas ..

STRATEGIC  nuclear weapons are designed to be targeted by the governments in a bigger way against our countries and their populations.

However - this type of label is really a Government political construct or "SPIN" - as they all are genocidal WMD designed to destroy life on earth.
Trouble is - as I see it .. that we are no longer watching "Sci-Fi" movies on the screen - but this crazy stuff has become real and now .. but a small consolation might be reports that the main atomic powers do claim to have have reduced the numbers of their deployed nukes lately ..

According to the latest Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists ..

https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/00963402.2019.1654273

"The Russian navy is also developing the Status-6 (Poseidon) – a nuclear-powered, very long range, nuclear-armed torpedo. Once deployed in the mid-2020s, the weapon would be carried by specially configured Oscar submarines known as the Belgorod-class (Project 09852)."

I find that snippet of information concerning as it seems that just having nuclear missiles, gravity bombs, torpedoes & mines etc actively deployed is becoming dated, not enough, & old-fashioned ..

.. the NEW GENERATION arriving to kill our kids is going to be fleets of nuclear pulse-jet powered extended duration, robotic, unmanned loitering nuclear munitions sent-off into the skies and oceans to cruise about for months at a time loaded with dozens of 'thermo-nuclear' warheads.

Am I paranoid (or maybe just 'aware')?

These people truly are INSANE .. I am relieved that they haven't yet developed nuclear powered giant moles to tunnel into the ground and work their way under each others cities to wait for orders to blow the lot ..

Oops - what did I just say? - Hasn't 'sapping' and mining been a military technique for centuries - and it would be too much to expect that our "leaders" have neglected that possibility eh - perhaps it's still a developmental secret?
"Thunderbirds" Thought of Tunneling MOLES In 1964:

- If I disappear from blogging you might guess that I've trodden on somebodies toes eh.

Who knows? .. but all the world's mothers can sleep easy because New Zealand has prohibited semi-auto rifles and high capacity magazines.

- Before I go - may I enrich your knowledge & happiness with two names:

TELLER - ULAM.

These two persons jointly planned & developed the science that produced the thermonuclear SUPER BOMB ..  All "hydrogen bomb" warheads used today by all nations are built to their still secret basic design. - They really tried hard in America for success. "Teller" was born Teller Ede in Budapest 1908.

Ukrainian Stanislaw ULAM to his everlasting credit also proposed Nuclear Pulse Propulsion in US..

Your small happiness that I mentioned should stem from the fact that both Austria-Hungarian born men are now deceased (and that they both really disliked each other).

FIRE LANCE - We Owe IT All To LANCE:

- GUNS.

Yeah I know, - they're all going to be BANNED but ..

The FIRE LANCE 火枪 seems to have been the earliest recorded use of gunpowder in hand-held tools .. starting it all.

Experts reckon that in the 10th Century some Chinese genius tried fixing a bamboo tube stuffed full of gunpowder next to his spear's point to burn & blind the opposition before impaling them. - Next step was to mix a handful of hard-stuff like broken pottery or gravel into the gunpowder mix. (- Well like shrapnel .. but Henry Shrapnel supposedly didn't invent his shells until 1784 eh.)

Then they realized that the shot and flame was so effective that you didn't really need the spear tips .. these might have seemed something like the fireworks we have called .. "Roman Candles".

- The range of these earliest 'PROTO GUNS' was around three meters - ten foot plus.

These fighters had to carry a suspended fire-pot hanging-about to light their bundle of fire-lances via a 'slow match'. - At various times they tried other tube materials made from wound paper and iron.

"Paper" is not so silly as it sounds .. as Chinese lamellar  "White Paper Armour" was very functional & even somewhat effective against musket ball and bayonet  - being made from 30 to 60 layers of bonded laminations of silk or bark paper .. think "composite materials".

Early government technicians were of course developing other gunpowder engines - BOMBS & CANNON simultaneously.
14th Century Swiss Gunner.

For the next 500 years - these "black-powder" arms were improved, developed and refined from that very first idea of a tube packed with an explosive material - until breech loaded self-contained cartridges replaced the muzzle loading process .

.22" Caliber Adapter For 40 MM Grenade Launcher:

Many Law Enforcement Agencies such as the New Zealand Police purchase and retain Grenade Launchers for use in "crowd control".

The NZ Police have previously publicly announced & shown their procurement of 40 MM Sponge Rounds for use in their 40 MM Grenade Launchers - these specialist less lethal rounds are very expensive to purchase and I doubt that there is much 40 MM training or practice.

CDVS US are offering this clever HORNETS NEST cartridge chamber adapter that permits the loading of ten .22" Long Rifle Rim-Fire rounds (& one center-fire primer) as a cheaper shooting option to proper 40 MM ammunition ..

While a full load of  'two-twos' will run much cheaper than what gas grenades or sponge rounds cost - it must be noted that ten .22" bullets is definitely LETHAL - being much like a load of 12 Gauge '00' Buckshot.

The XM1006 Safariland Sponge Round as issued to New Zealand Police is generally NOT Lethal when used properly .. but each spin-stabilized shot of this proper ammunition will cost more than x 500 rim-fire .22" rounds.

Cartridge Conversion Sleeves - 'Chamber Inserts:

These fairly cheap tools let a shooter fire a smaller round in their larger chambered firearm.
This image illustrates how a .32" ACP "mouse-gun" round can be inserted into a 'chamber sleeve' (center) and fired perfectly well from a British Lee-Enfield SMLE bolt action rifle.

 - This is because the barrel bore of a .303" is the same size as that used by a "Thirty-Two" pistol .. it's actually also the same size as the Russian AK-47 7.62x39mm & several other widely used calibers such as Nagant Revolvers and some "30 Caliber" rifles.

That useful type of conversion only needs a chamber insert to locate the smaller round in-line for firing through the existing barrel and has a good chance of retaining decent accuracy.

.. But there is a second type of conversion sleeve that has both the new chamber and a short section of barrel to direct the sub-caliber round down a larger bore. - For example you can find adapters that work by allowing small .22" rim-fires to be shot from a 12 Gauge Shotgun:

There are various clever combinations of "before'n'afters" made and they are fun & interesting to play with .. but do they work properly? ... well they are certainly safe to use and if this system lets you extend your choices that's great - but such a gizmo may or might not be repeatably accurate in your gun.

The latest clever chamber adapter that I have seen permits ten rounds of .22" long-rifle to fire simultaneously from a 40 MM grenade launcher (1.57 inches caliber)!

You can also buy a quite different conversion to convert popular center-fire semi-auto pistols to chamber and run on .22" Rim-Fire ammo. These can be very successful as they include new magazines, barrel and slide .. I have seen these conversion kits made for Glocks and M 1911 pistols and they can be very useful for training.

I have used my Advantage Arms .22" conversion kit in a Glock 17 on the club range while shooting informal "shoot what you got" IPSC Practical matches .. great fun practice and 'experimental' as we shot the same courses comparing various handguns - 38"s, 9mm, 'two-two', 327 Fed-Mag, etc.

I've pretty well concluded that a dedicated caliber gun best suites me .. My experience suggests that when you seek a specific function .. you'd best choose a system designed to produce that result - rather than buying an alternative option .. unless you're easily persuaded by sales talk.

Winchester Revolvers

Winchester revolvers?  - Well yes so it seems.

The story seems to be that news of Colts developing a lever action rifle upset the Winchester management so they reacted by designing and building a few "experimental" revolver designs ..
1883?
and a further version ...
1876?
This Gun Sold At Auction For $431,250.

Honestly I have no information to add other than by just copying from other sites .. so refer you to this linked story:

https://revivaler.com/winchester-1883-prototype-revolver/

It seems likely that the two manufacturers had a commercial discussion and reached agreement not to compete in each others market.

This article says that Winchester built 13 revolvers:

NZ's Progress With Guns:

In 1957 (18th September) the Wellington Evening Post published a photo of some law-abiding Bank Clerks training with handguns so as to be able to defend themselves and the banks property against violent criminals:

That same year back in London I enrolled in the school Combined Cadet Force:

- THIS year in New Zealand we have a Mongrel Mob Gang leader publicly stating on national television that he and these criminal gang-members will NOT be surrendering their guns when legally licensed owners are handing-in theirs as required by the new prohibition laws.

We truly have made changes to how society is governed.

- 62 years passing has made a difference to how I was taught and what I was trained to do at school - as in 1957 I was taught in the CCF how to shoot safely and trained how to maintain a military rifle.

- And I was expected and trusted to be able to use firearms for the good of society.

No longer. .. Gang rules in 2019 New Zealand.

The UNITED NATIONS Office For Disarmament Affairs has issued "Protocols' such as WMD and CCCW Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons that are specifically aimed at limiting & controlling the use of destructive weapons by GOVERNMENTS & MILITARY FORCES against civilian populations. - These 'rules' are being deliberately misused by our administrations to restrict and reduce the legal use of firearms for hunting and sport by licensed citizens.

https://flicense.blogspot.com/2014/04/united-nations-weapons-rules-gun-law.html

- Talking about gangs that are outside the law .. How many Billionaires are there? .. Wikipedia records that there were 2,208 last year (2018).

 - Each billionaire (& multi-millionaire) clearly shows the antithesis of democratic rule.

These super-wealthy, super powerful apes think that they are are creatures raised to the level of the ancient's GODS .. Clothed in gold and descending from the skies to direct their subjects.

THE Best Self Defense Pistol Ammo:

The VERY BEST EVER and totally effective round (for overseas readers) is ....

- I read this linked article a second time after a year or so - and I gained a different insight - but it must be good writing - as I wanted to argue all over again 😈.

https://gunnewsdaily.com/best-9mm-ammo/

I mean this guy says that the 'forty-five' shot from a hammer-fired steel-framed pistol is his No.1 all time choice .... except that the .45" ACP is too slow and doesn't penetrate and his chosen pistol doesn't hold enough rounds.

- Now, I don't mean to be argumentative - BUT isn't that the whole point of a self-defense carry gun - that it carries enough ammo of a type that will penetrate the target effectively?

So we then get to read about bigger holes, muzzle energies, over-penetration, velocities, ballistic performance spectrum etc. etc.

Look - you can't beat a well written strong opinion or belief for entertainment value .. good article eh.

Whereas THE FACTS can be lack-luster & boring .. and you can't argue against THE FACTS as tested and recorded and analyzed by the FBI and Greg Ellifritz's STOPPING POWER STUDY.

https://flicense.blogspot.com/2014/01/stopping-power-study-by-greg-ellifritx.html

You might dare to summarize the requirement for a "carry gun" (if you're feeling brave eh) as ..

.. The gun & ammunition combination have to be sized comfortably for "carry" and be such that YOU can shoot it accurately and quickly while the projectile will PENETRATE to a vital part of the target.

That's IT.

I suggest that you forget all about fancy expansion and 'knock down power', muzzle energy, momentum, caliber, relative incapacitation index ....

A steel-headed wooden arrow travelling at under 180 foot per second - or a .22" small-bore bullet that penetrates a vital spot will terminate the threat just the same as the legendary 'forty-five' would.

Sorry about that eh 😄
