PRE Trauma Stress Dis-Order: Teaching Teachers Judgement or Hysteria:

I've just learned of a Northland NZ school teacher who locked an 11 y.o. boy into a room - rang his parents and demanded that she remove him immediately from the school or she would call the police .. because he was observed playing with a yellow plastic toy gun similar to that below.
Now accepting that the story as told is correct - I would suggest that the parent should have rang 111 and requested that Emergency Services attend the school to restrain, sedate, and treat the teacher suffering from stress & having a likely as yet un-diagnosed mental illness.

Now I'd like to point out that I write this as a firm & long term PACIFIST. - I oppose all warfare - and the Weapons of Mass Destruction .. particularly the Nuclear Warheads held by big Governments to threaten-oppress us all. - Surely all decent folk must oppose the slaughter of our families?

.. However that does not mean that I am some sort of 'wet dribble' - I sincerely want to bring back the DEATH PENALTY for undoubted murderers like that Australian 'mosque killer' Tarrant & would be happy to add him to the 60 million who depart worldwide any year.

- Might 'Pre Trauma Stress Dis-Order' be a new condition .. or just a p.c. term for cowering fear or anxiety?

I've also heard a radio interview titled something like "Listen to Your Inner Voices" - but I'd suggest that we all ignore our inner emotional voices - & rather research the issues for THE FACTS & science to guide our lives.

I did use the word Aberrant - linking it to 'Deluded' and 'Demented' regarding those poor people who have been so trained to fear lawful firearms and now suffer pre-trauma stress at the mere thought of a pop-gun.
NO LAWFUL SHOOTING HERE?

To the official training given teachers you need to add their life experience. - Increasingly this may be urban - because two thirds of we hominids now grow in CITIES & the only contact with guns in these concrete tips is from media violence & crime.

If our modern society is so corrupted and warped in it's structures as to feed our children with killer video games while bombarding the parents with pschologically crafted advertising & marketing - mixed with reality TV bollocks - it doesn't surprise me that the lower half of the IQ pool can be deluded .. while some of the upper side of the bell curve choose options based on their own demented emotional prejudices.
- Crap in .. CRAP OUT.

- Mind you .. Is stupidity an illness? .. is 'disadvantaged' now the rule? - "I have a disadvantaged intellect." .. perhaps 'impaired' might be the latest p.c. approved term.

We didn't seem to have people with 'behavioural problems' roaming the streets after the 1950s war years - they likely were hospitalised and helped. - There was a kid at infants school who had permanent candles of green snot descending from his nose .. but he was moved elsewhere for care.

Surely there should be some law that forbids the deliberate telling of lies for profit .. such as in Parliamentary Privilege or in marketing claims?
Such Pretty Stones .. Their "frequencies" Must be good for you ...

All that nonsense about Astrology and health-giving crystals - homeopathy, palmistry, and all the other for-profit fakery - could and should be made criminal offences .. except it might limit the money making taking of so many predatory folk and politicians who feed off the gullible.

- Surely now that we have introduced laws about 'Hate Speech' - which basically is the telling of lies about skin colour or religion .. we could stop people from selling water as homeopathic medical treatment or from claiming that their branded yellow grease "spread" tastes the same as butter or olive oil. - 'Poor Peoples Butter' or Margarine is  grey coloured  hydrogenated oil that is bleached then dyed yellow - with around 20% water added.

A return to fact basics and honest claims .. without all the plastic packaging and marketing lies is long overdue .. perhaps licensed firearm's owner Nicole McKee of  act  might introduce such an honesty bill into Parliament when she takes-up her seat.

Why do we pay people to lie to us?

The Stars Made Me Do It:

You score 20 points if you can say Anthropomorphism out loud and clearl (.. I can't)

This is the desire to give human characteristics to animals and other stuff .. much used in marketing.

According to some bloke called Franchi - this is what 'MUSIC' looked like 400 years ago:
Music - Nice Fiddle - Shame About The Face.

It seems we have a psychological need to anthropomorphise or personify stuff that we don't understand to help us cope with it-them.

- So it's the same emotional need inside that prompts old ladies to think that their lovely hungry cat loves them as is the need by some to explain that the wonders & vastness of the Universe all come from some 'god' or other who supposedly made it all for their personal benefit - complete with the aspirational life plan of plucking a harp while floating on a cloud after passing through the Pearly Gates - with all the 60 million other departed souls queuing-up outside every year.
The latest 'Carry Gun' ammunition from SPEER that is optimised for effective performance from shorter barrels - manages to print it's packaging without any mention that it is SUB-SONIC 9 mm ammo ..

High Performance LOW VELOCITY Cartridges.

I'm not saying that this round is bad .. just that it's marketing is dishonest.

Why do we accept this crap? - Commercial salespersons - astrologists,  christians, jewish and islamics, psychics - all psychology trained marketing professionals make top money from conditioning the minds of the gullible into paying them for their offerings..

.. "Isn't it good that the nice man is showing me something that I need?"

Make no mistake - WE pay for it all - all that printed packaging rubbish and "Ad-Breaks" every ten minutes cost consumers extra dollars on anything we buy - even if you refused to watch the adverts and throw away the annoying packaging. - "They" don't pay for it - WE do

Second Shots:

So how many of you excel at "Double Taps"?  - Come on be honest ... moi I can pull the trigger way faster than I can get the recoiling gun back onto target - which means most of the time - the second hurried shot fired is a round into the outer zones.

- Sounds impressive though .. No big deal if it's two-two or re-loads eh - but if it comes out of a factory box with colourful images of the latest wonder expanding projectiles - you're going to get home with a lighter purse or wallet. - Better to take a little more time aiming while you repeat after me "FRONT SIGHT - FRONT SIGHT ..."
The very BEST Way To Make Fast "Double-Tap "Snake Eyes" Is To Load Your Own DUPLEX Rounds Each with TWO Projectiles .. Except Jacinda & NZ Police Have Made That PROHIBITED AMMUNITION:
FIVE Shots .. TEN Magnum Holes - Before Recent NZ Law Changes.

Anyway - The story is "if at first you don't succeed - try - try - & try again"

- So I have actually got my #1 MAB-D slide locking back using the safety switch ... after EIGHT  second attempts involving disassembly and careful work with a fine file on four separate contact faces & re-assembly .. Have you noticed that it's always the last thing that you try that works? 😈
Both of my vintage MAB Model D's NOW lock-back-open to show clear ..

The "SAFETY" switch - which I prefer to call "the danger switch' now manages the useful function of holding the slide open on both firearms.

Treat all guns as loaded at all times. Never point any gun at ANYTHING you don't want to destroy.

I have also file-adjusted the rear sight notches so that I can see the front blade alignment through my specs ... and have also lowered & squared the front blade of #1 and re-blued using Birchwood Casey   Perma Blue  paste.

Note: I see that one U S gunsmith charges $25 to widen your sight notch.

Original Sights on left - Enlarged (& Re-Blued) On Right:
- sorry about 'rubbish photos' But I have limited skills eh.

The first bought gun had three nasty small 'dings' on the worn blue of the front face of the trigger guard .. much improved now by using P1200 emery paper and the bluing paste .. So of-course I'm now thinking that the lightly speckled rust and scratched/worn blue of the slide might be worth a try ?? - Hmm - how good is that perma-blue?

A small aside .. It was interesting to see that the back/hidden face of the safety lever was stamped with the last two digits of the serial number. - But it was also strange(ish) that both of these Banque de France 7.65 mm pistols had the front sight top profile ground or filed under the bluing at an angle 'off-square'. - How often would you reckon that French bank guard pistols might have been fired?

- So next trip to the range involves test firing both post-war .32" pistols again to see just exactly where they now impact on target .. getting closer to the middle I hope.

Ah, - a second shot at 'Knock-Down Power' .. I was rearranging my Gun Digests in their bookshelf and took a look at my oldest one from 1962 - there on page 57 Warren Page writes KNOCK DOWN NOTHING .. where he points-out that a two ton motorcar WILL knock down most U S animals while a 200 grain bullet can never manage that - whatever it's velocity. - If hit properly .. they fall down under gravity.

They had science way back even then in 1962.

- Have you ever noticed how making rolled-oats porridge shines-up the inside of a stainless steel pan - provided you didn't burn it black by having it on the heat for too long?

- Life is extra good eh.

Aberrant Anti-gun 'BANNERS':

I like to start my posts on a lighter topic - so your starter question today - for 10 points is .. How many people die worldwide every year? .. I'll tell you later.

I learned another new word ... ABERRANT .. it means something like 'deviating from typical or normal patterns'.

- I was considering other words to deluded & demented for describing the anti-gun campaigners' emotional scripts and cant.

You see these "Banners" seek to label any citizen interested in skill at arms as being a potential killer playing with weapons designed to murder innocent people.

.. This needs them to completely discount the wild harvesting of natural seasonal foods, crop protection - pest control - precision target shooting sports competition, - self-defence - Law Enforcement - Peace Keeping and Defence Forces ..

Apart from the factually FALSE assumptions therein ... the Banners make a 1984 type "Double-Speak" leap to exempt their own Police Forces and three or four branches of their national Military from also being 'killing machines' ... which of course they specifically are.

A typical anti-gun campaigner first has to personify a neutral inanimate tool as Dangerous & 'EVIL' and then label it's owner also as evil by association.
Henry Big Boy X Model Black Polymer Gun:

Politicians eagerly grasping at any opening to deny reality spotted that modern firearms are coloured BLACK .. an "evil colour" - and coined the label BLACK RIFLES to separate them from the good rifles as used by "White Hat Heroes".

- Modern firearms use moulded polymers to replace heavier wooden stocks and these plastics contain UV stabilisers and carbon black to stop UV sunlight degradation known as 'phototendering'

That is why they are coloured black .. not because they are evil.

Psychologists need to study these Gun Banners and determine just how they justify choosing to reverse logic and falsify and ignore facts in order to project nonsense as wisdom. - Surely this is 'a maladaptive coping mechanism' for their mental stress?

I see other examples of reversed logic lately .. it seems to be currently fashionable.

- Take school classes & classrooms - Kids get restless when required to sit quietly and learn .. the traditional remedy was to enforce behavioural restraint and discipline for short periods with play breaks at intervals.

- The new pattern seems to be to allow free movement and distraction from learning and to even encourage this wandering by removing desks and dividing walls between classes while the teacher ignores these free-range ferals and tries to teach any static children at rest. This weird corruption of the education process is no doubt encouraged because it is cheaper to produce school buildings with less structural divisions and furniture.

Recently Prohibited firearms here in NZ have been labelled as Military STYLED Semi Autos (MSSA's). - As a mere retired fork-lift driver - I'd like to ask what has style got to do with anything related to criminal violence or racist terrorism? .. The answer is that the word 'style' is what adds our sporting firearms to inclusion with military selective-fire weapons .. by means of their use of plastic furniture as grips, guards & stocks.

Ah ., The number of DEATHS WORLDWIDE every year is around 60 MILLION per YEAR.

Point Shooting 2:

Ongoing conversation with 'Pete' about point shooting adds further thoughts on this topic

Rex Applegate Demonstrates His POINT SHOOTING Technique With 9 mm Pistol:
Fairbairne, Sykes, & Applegate worked together on training techniques between the war years and their 'point shooting' system is sometimes referred to as the 'FSA' method.

- If you check-out the sights of the pistols used back then it will help you understand how ignoring the sights had only a small bad effect on shot placement. The sights back then were VERY small and you needed excellent focus to be able to align them. My recently bought MAB Model D's prompted an immediate search for my round section needle file to open-up the rear sight notch.

I have done some timed or "speed shooting" over the years - mostly IPSC practical shooting. - I have tried timed plate shooting but was useless - however 'bowling pin matches' were hilariously good fun before safety considerations ruled them out here .. I used to leave "pin" matches with my whole face aching from smiling & laughing for hours. -   Practical shooting is very challenging because it requires accurate shooting under the pressure with your score being divided by the length of time you take to complete each stage.

Scoring Zones Of Classic IPSC Card Target
There are so many ways to set a challenging IPSC style course including using the reverse face of the card as a 'No-Shoot' target .. with any miss-hit logging negative points ..
No-Shoot targets seem to have a magnetic attraction for some (me) - even when club matches are run using 'two-twos' just for fun and safety training.
"You can't miss fast enough to win" ..

'Pete' says: A fascinating topic. Point shooting is so different to the common "Weaver" triangular shooting stance commonly seen on shooting ranges nowadays. Viewed with derision as an anachronism from a bygone era where law enforcement officers and SOE agents used .32ACP pistols, point shooting is nevertheless based on real life pistol combat experience by military and law enforcement.
Jack Ruby Shoots Lee Harvey Oswald:
'Pete' comments:
There are two versions of point shooting, one you often see in 1930s and 40s gangster films, where a hero or villain holds up others in a room with a revolver held down at his hip, wrist bent upwards. Advantage is that he is difficult to disarm or for someone to knock the gun to one side. Disadvantage is that shooting is literally unaimed as he cannot line up the gun visually but relies on instinctive pointing.

A related, actual "point shooting" technique, is literally pointing your index finger at the target while using your middle finger to operate the trigger. This has the advantage of a better pinch grip of the gun between index finger and thumb and also a more straight pull on the trigger. Your middle finger has straighter-running flexor tendons. If you seek a real-life example of this, check a photo of Jack Ruby taking out Lee Harvey Oswald, shooting from the hip and using his middle finger on his snubnose revolver's trigger. Could mean Ruby was well-trained, certainly his aim was good, but the reason he used his middle finger as trigger finger was that he had lost his index finger!

The more practical point shooting technique, gun raised, which actually IS a method of eye aiming (albeit not with the sights) is described by Colonel Rex Applegate of the Office of Strategic Services in his book "Kill Or Be Killed", (1943) p119. This by the way is the stance adopted by the G-men in the photo in the article above. Many situations preclude use of the sights, both for reasons of ambient light but also because using the sights carries a time penalty.

p119
"Shooting By Instinctive Pointing

This method of firing is done and practiced with the body in a crouching position. The arm is fully extended, although the elbow may be slightly flexed. The grip of the hand on the weapon is tight - almost convulsive. The crouch is used because it has been found that when subject to enemy fire, men will instinctively assume this position. With the arm extended, control of elevation and windage is more easily affected and the necessity for the extreme amount of practice in learning to shoot accurately with the run resting on the hip is eliminated. The grip on the pistol or revolver is extremely tight. This is also a combat condition, because in the midst of battle excitement, a man instinctively grips his weapon in this manner and certainly does not take time to hold his breath, line up the sights, and squeeze the trigger."
Point shooting is the way to aim only when it's too dangerous to use extra time use the sights. It would be a fun SOE re-enactment using CO2 repeating pistols ... and eye protection. )-;
Thanks 'Pete' for well researched and considered comments.

Certainly I have read Applegate & company's booklets and also have studied Ed McGivern's marvellous shooting achievements. There is clear evidence that talented individuals who practice frequently can do wondrous feats of skill-at-arms.

I'm trying to focus on the potentially deadly effects of each & every shot fired ..

Without doubt when an armed individual is facing and trying to stop a deadly force attack - they understandably may release shots hurriedly .. but they truly ought to be trying to present their firearm accurately sighted 'on-target' as best able.

Certainly ON RANGE where allowed in a safe manner - practised shooters may develop extraordinary skills with firearms. - We live in a time when the use of arms by law enforcement officers is rightly being questioned .. Indeed the use of deadly force at any time surely must always be questioned.
I think that the only justification for anyone to carry and potentially USE a firearm as a weapon against another is 'SELF DEFENCE' .. to protect their own life or the lives of others. This is a most serious responsibility and there surely is a 100% duty to train and practice regularly in order that risk of accidental injury to others is minimised-eliminated.

Now I just clicked on this video from Massad Ayoob .. it being a quiet evening following a mild winter's day - he says something in the first two minutes that we should NEVER forget - Link:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-j4PS_8R5IE

.. Mas. writes good books too.

Note: Medically speaking there is no such thing as the commonly used phrase "shooting instinctively" .. as there can be no instinct inborn for use of any tool .. there is another term often used about practising "moves" MUSCLE MEMORY which explains how we learn to do something from repetition training. The muscle memory actually happens inside our brains where myelin smooths & speeds the mental pathways or axons.

"Practice Makes Perfect".

Predators & Prey - Which Firearms Owner Are You?

My oldest friend (who is one day younger than me) - for some time has been affected by leukemia blood cancer.

Our beautiful blue planet teems with layers of animal life - each predating and consuming at different levels ..

We particular primates are currently at the top of the food chain because we used our heads and opposable thumb grip to develop effective tools and weapons to dominate other life.

We people have been around only for some 315,000 years - but there were other forms of Hominidae bashing about for a few millions of years before us.

- So as life grows - matures and dies .. we champion killers that we are ... interrupt that natural progression at the stages when we like the flavour and eat it ..

Tools

Cute little bunnies, pheasants - frolicking lambs - placid old dairy cows with all of their male calves - get minced into our Burgers and the chooks get herbed-spiced-battered and steamed into KFC and hot-dogs.

We used even to eat each other - no worries - but now that's a little frowned upon so we just climb-up on each others economic backs pushing the less able back down into the dust to expire from neglect - while our top corporate predators say that they benefit humankind by providing work and sustenance for others .. ignoring that if they hadn't taken control of the resources we'd have helped ourselves as always.

"They" don't want you to own firearms ...

This is a 'dog-eat-dog' world where the biggest apes rule their patch - and if they persuade enough followers they can then take more territory and keep expanding their power base. - The strongest ape in our Pacific Ocean patch of blue has been the U S military who accidentally developed their biggest ever explosive weapon in the Marshall Islands March 1st 1954. - The thermonuclear CASTLE BRAVO was rated at 15 megatons ..
Castle Bravo - the first "Hydrogen" Bomb - surprised it's U S designers by being THREE TIMES MORE POWERFUL than planned .. and it vaporised all the instruments placed around BIKINI ATOLL to measure it.

The exposure to fallout has been linked to increase the likelihood of several types of cancer such as leukemia and thyroid cancer

The Castle Bravo fall-out spread radioactive material as far as Australia, India and Japan, and even to the United States and parts of Europe. - Though organised as a secret test - Castle Bravo quickly became an international incident, prompting calls for a ban on the atmospheric testing of thermonuclear devices.

At that time the U S Navy tanker Patapasco was slow moving away from Bikini - returning to Pearl Harbour with a faulty engine - and it caught very high levels of radioactive fallout debris.

On March 1 1954 Mick & I were 'nearly' ten years old with very fast - much used pedal bikes.

On July 9 1962 U S launched a nuclear missile STARFISH-PRIME from Johnston Atoll carrying a thermonuclear warhead into space - that when detonated damaged electronic equipment in New Zealand  & Hawaii as well as knocking-out half a dozen satellites.
U S Military Wanted To See What Would Happen:
STARFISH-PRIME

Please remember that more than ten rounds in a .22" rabbit rifle is now PROHIBITED in NZ.

Weapons PROHIBITED - For Whom?

55 Million Chickens are eaten EVERY DAY:
Pork? maybe 200,000 Million metric tonnes a year ..

Ask the folk of Southern Uta and Nevada - down wind of the Las Vegas test site - what happened to their sheep. - Some 2 Billion Dollars compensation has so far been paid to radiation victims of the Nevada Test Site.
But ... the next hot product coming soon to your friendly local Supermarket is 'CULTURED MEAT' produced in factories using tissue engineering in bubbling vats of warm slurry - embryonic stem cells plus myoblasts grown in a tasty culture medium - Umm um - no animals means no bones eh .. medium rare or well done?

- Military people developed the nuclear weapons of mass destruction .. and they taught me how to shoot.

- We need to remember that the leaders of our big power governments together with their generals - are top predators with little concern for anyone else.
74 y.o Moron As The World's Leading Ape:

- NZ authorities urge you to safely surrender any newly prohibited firearm that you still retain.

Police & Politics & Guns:

Parliament has now announced that Police will be removed from the control of FIREARMS LICENSING in New Zealand. - This would seem to be yet another political move by the Labour-NZ First party coalition to retain votes & power by "doing something".

It is becoming increasingly known that the Australian Mosque Murderer was negligently granted his licence to kill. - I nearly said clearly known but I doubt that it will ever be made clear .. as there are too many politicians and police employees in positions of power trying to justify and cover their mistakes with alternative spin stories.

It reminds me a bit of the 'Kennedy Assassination' way back in 1963 ... the more investigations, Commissions, Panels, Committees, and Review Boards that were held and published their findings .. the more mud clouded the waters & fuelled the Conspiracy Theories.

- Here in New Zealand logic would say that everyone should wait to see what the Royal Commission Of Inquiry has to report next month - but our government has it's own political reasons for rushing even more law changes through "committee" -  that will again further blame licensed sporting shooters for those FIFTY ONE MURDERS.

The 245,000 NZ Licensed Firearms Owners are angry at this huge insult - and need to use their VOTES to try correct this injustice .. but how can they be effective when there are so many options?  .. New Conservative Party, New Zealand Outdoors Party, New Zealand First Party, Kiwi Party, Act Party, New Zealand National Party ...

WE NEED CLEAR & UNIFIED GUIDANCE FROM OUR SHOOTING ORGANISATIONS ON THE BEST WAY TO USE OUR VOTES.

.. but I expect shooters will still be arguing and shouting when we face the electoral papers and will then vote in every which way possible.

Perhaps we need a NZ NRA
