Orange TOY Guns:

A few weeks back I blogged about US & UK lawmakers deciding that if some guns HAD to be colored orange .. or another fluorescent red or yellow tint etc .. they'd be safe to sell and for kids to play with !

Here's the latest TFB post:

FUKUSHIMA - Leaking Into The Pacific:

11 March 2011 Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant was inundated and horribly damaged by a tsunami following the Magnitude 9 Tohoku earthquake.
FUKUSHIMA FUCKED

15,896 deaths were confirmed .. but there are more than 2,500 recorded as 'missing' - plus 6,157 injured.

You saw it on live TV at the time - the sea crashing across the land - terrible stuff - but do you know what has happened to that power plant? .. At least THREE of its nuclear reactors have melted-down.

We are officially told that 300 tons of radioactive contamination are leaking into the Pacific Ocean every day.

However "experts" have stated that it may take 15-20 years for this radiation to noticeably overlay the earlier radiation from American & French Pacific Island weapon testing.

- This map shows the distribution & density of this Japanese contamination:

I can't detail all the ongoing effects .. I suggest that you watch this video:

Colts Single Action Army - Made In Italy?:

Colts have a long history of manufacturing fine weapons that hold a strong place in America's hearts.

Some of the finest reliable traditionally engineered, steel firearms proudly wear the Colts logo:
You have to appreciate that today's Colt Manufacturing has little real connection to the outfits set-up by Samuel Colt way back around 1814 (Colt Armory 1855) .. there have been around 26 company Presidents since then and multiple corporate owners.
Wikipedia has a comprehensive history of their corporate collapses and ownership changes;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colt%27s_Manufacturing_Company

- Lots of history - lots of reading eh.

The iconic "Colt Peacemaker" is where I'm looking .. properly known as the M 1873Colt Single Action Army.
- Samuel Colt himself died on 10 January 1862 .. some eleven years before the 'Peacemaker' was designed and produced.
I Had Difficulty Finding a TRUE Original Gun Image.

First Generation guns were produced from 1873 to 1941. - Second Generation 1956-1974. - then Third Generation 1976 to date.

I am not a Colt expert. - But I do have an active bullshit  detector. I have seen and read so much marketing gloss and so many reviews of guns that slide oilily over quality control issues .. that the whispered hints about Italian proof marks found on Colts M1873 parts stuck inside my head.

- Then I saw this statement in Wikipedia's Uberti page:

"Uberti caters to collectors, cowboy action shooters, civil war skirmishers as well as working ranchers, hunters and other outdoorsmen who need or prefer to carry traditional firearms into the field. Historically, Uberti has produced parts such as frames, cylinders, and barrels for several other manufacturers like BerettaTaurus** Charles Daly,   Colt  and USFA, while current firearms made by the company are offered under both the Uberti brand names and those of importers Cimarron and Taylor's."

Uberti themself were acquired by Beretta in 2000. (Uberti's replicas are highly regarded by shooters and collectors all over the world, sometimes thought of as surpassing the originals in quality)

"Proudly made in America" ..

I have no complaint about any manufacturer outsourcing parts from efficient suppliers. It is widespread.

- How many car makers produce their own tires, glass, or alternators etc.? - How many pistol makers produce their own magazines? (SCCY do.)

Plus I am a fan of Ruger's high strength guns and respect their skills that results in a  large section of their business making components for many other US gun makers.

.. just saying. - four clicks that spell C  O  L  T.

.. selling the sizzle - not the steak.

**I'd never heard of Charles Daly firearms .. so I looked them up: - Seems they are now part of CHIAPPA and import various arms from around sixteen different makers in as many countries.

Violent Nutters - Overcrowding As Behavioral Stress:

What noise annoys an oyster?  .. Any noise annoys an oyster - but a noisy noise annoys an oyster most.

 - MOTORWAY NOISE ..

This is true in general terms (but may incorrectly be attributed to Dr Seuss). - High noise levels are known to be both damaging to physical health and to affect psychological behavior by creating annoyance & anger.
What Noise?

A parallel effect results from overcrowding .. we have known this since rat & mice experiments by John B Calhoun between 1958 and 1972 - plus many other studies that have shown stress & aberrant behavior .. called a BEHAVIORAL SINK.

- Would you think that city life in grotty damp small thin walled apartments combined with traffic noise, pollution, gridlock, - overloaded public transport systems, - pavements covered in shit & vomit etc .. amounts to overcrowding that causes antisocial behavior?

There's a phrase used in the computer world "CRAP IN - CRAP OUT" (properly Garbage in -Garbage out) - this surely applies to city inmates lives. - If you inter Donnie's "poorly educated" in garbage dump ghettos .. you shouldn't be surprised when they start to fall apart and smell.

Perhaps drug use and alcohol ARE indeed signs of self medication for stress relief.

.. Something is causing behavioral changes.
The miserable scungy environment might be relevant ...

New Pistol From Mossberg - MC1sc:

100 years after their first pistol (.. The Brownie) - Mossberg have rushed into your nearest friendly gun shop in US with their second well thought-out sub-compact pistol:

It looks good for carry in USA - AND it takes Glock 43 magazines if you prefer them over Mossberg's own see-through design. - I wonder if that works the other way .. do the Mossberg  see-through magazines function fully in the Glock 43?

Early Experts are opining that the MC1sc works well in a slightly "snappy" way .. as you'd expect from a small carry gun in a full power 9 mm caliber. - There won't be many - if any coming to New Zealand as the 3.4 inch barrel is a little disadvantaged in the tumescence of it's tissues. Shame about that eh. - TFB thinks it has a 2.75-3.50 inch barrel - but the makers say it's 3.4 inches.

https://www.mossberg.com/category/series/mc1sc/

This new Mossberg MC1 auto pistol is presented in five flavors .. Standard, Cross-Bolt-Safety, Red-Dot Laser, Tritium-Night-Sights, and a "Centennial-Limited Edition" is mentioned.

Looks reasonable to me - and it should work when needed - check-out TFB's range session review:

- Why would the NZ Police Firearms Office think that negative 0.6" barrel length short of 4 inches, - reduced capacity and velocities of a subcompact - make a gun forbidden?

Standard Manufacturing S333 Double-Barrel Revolver:

This interesting development of their 'pepper-pot' guns is classed as a "volley fire" - as each pull of the trigger fires two .22" Magnum rounds .. from the eight round steel cylinder.
- So this 'aircraft grade' 7075 aluminum framed revolver has two barrels and two firing pins .. but only one trigger that features a "Glock Style" trigger safety - this early sample trigger accommodates two fingers.

 - Being able to use two fingers to fire this small revolver may make it a good choice for people having limited hand strength from injury or arthritis etc.

That grip shape appears to be an advanced 'ergonomic' feature too .. it should help minimize felt recoil.
- That 'two-finger' feature reminds me of the early squeeze cocker pocket guns. - LINK:

.. I think that palm pistols & squeeze-cockers are both fascinating and beautiful ..

I'm intrigued by this design as I love the concept of "duplex loads" anyway. - This eight chamber cylinder in .22" WMR releases TWO rounds for each shot. - The twin barrels are only 1.25 inches long so I would expect velocities to be under 900 feet per second and rather loud.
The big question hanging is build standards .. The quoted price is US$369 which is reasonable provided these are reliable and workmanlike.
Standard Manufacturing of New Britain, Connecticut, plan to have these ready for this years SHOT Show. - It will be important for them to offer a quality product.

Marty K.

P.S. I'd like to "put in a plug" here (unpaid) for the GRIP Master  hand strengtheners.
These really work to exercise & maintain your grip strength and come in a range of different power levels.
- very useful for pistol shooters. - I have used one for years now and it's stayed "like new".

Political Hacks - Pick Your Favorite Cliches:

- May I take this opportunity to offend any 'p.c.' non-specific genders who are here accidentally .. by repeating my long term favorite joke:

Did you hear about the dyslexic, insomniac, agnostic ? - He (she or it) lay awake all night wondering if there really was a DOG.

Whenever I hear a politician or other overpaid 'fat-cat' use the phrase "moving forward" - or "..That's a very good question" - I know that this is another lying prick trying to 'spin' and push aside the truth.

- These phrases are two political escape hatches used to duck under the facts - and they are becoming so worn & tired .. no doubt due soon to be dropped & replaced by some other inventive lying executive side-step.
Old Chestnuts?

These are standard operating procedures used by the professionals (WE pay them) to wriggle out of trouble and to deflect problem facts - while giving them time to "move forward" in a different direction.

In the shooting world there are also too many old chestnuts still rattling about ..

Bring enough gun.

I'd rather be tried by twelve than carried by six.

- From my cold dead hands.

When guns are outlawed - only outlaws will have guns.

Guns don't kill people - people kill people.

The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun - is a good guy with a gun.

The first rule of gun fighting - Have a gun.

When seconds count - police are only minutes away. (Typical US City response time is 11 minutes.)

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

Gun control means using both hands.

- Here is one that I like:

An armed man is a citizen - an unarmed man is a subject.

And another one .. "Extracting UK from the EU is like trying to remove the egg from a baked cake." - I really like that one 😃.

Of course there is some truth in cliches .. but relying on them to prove a point is lazy and avoids having to think.
