THROWING HOLES:

 - Hickock 45 (70 y.o. Greg Kinman) said that "Throwing Holes - is that a thing?" .. in a review of the Glock G45 - a gun he jokes was named after him - I like Hickok 45

The Glock 45 is a black colored civilian law-enforcement version of my hero gun - the coyote tan G19X .. well sort of as there's no lanyard loop on the G45 & it has forward slide serrations.

Mr Hickok 45 does a lot of stuff very well. He thoroughly reviews guns .. talks a lot of sense and shoots very accurately and quickly - all the while entertaining his audience with jokes and throw-away lines. He must have been a great teacher in English class .. inspirational.

BUT .. when you think about it - shooting is about exactly that - punching holes - remotely at a distance.

Truly - shooting is not about making loud scary noises with a customized  'Gucci-gun' while you waive it about every-which-way on camera and talk shit .. There are so many rubbish videos on YouTube ..

The 'crux of the matter" is achieving holes in the precise area that you need to perforate.

- A miss is a miss. - Near enough is not good enough unless you are throwing rocket-launched grenades.

We have to be totally responsible for the impact point of each & every bullet that we 'throw'.

For some decades the gun media fed us total bullshit about needing a "FORTYFIVE" or a Magnum handgun for effective self defense. Great photographic images but biased advice .. Just blasting off your big-bore downrange will not cause any target within twenty feet to disintegrate - indeed that bullet may horribly injure someone else.

- Part of the construct was that any caliber below 9mm was an anemic ineffectual 'Mouse-gun' for wooses. - Also there has been for years a trend of disrespecting "Bullseye" precision marksmanship.

Facts of Life - What works for me may not work for you. - A great firearm for me may be too big or too heavy or too big/small in the grip - What about trigger reach?  .. or perhaps too much disturbing recoil, or be too 'explosive' in effect for comfort. A firearm needs to fit the shooter.

Years back - some of the lads took turns discharging rounds of shop-bought ammo through their S&W 44 Magnum .. the concussion blasted the nails out of the range roof and causing hearing loss all round .. but they called PHWORRR repeatedly to each other .. like challenging silverbacks in the jungle .. however none of them has ever  repeated this "fun" in the last five years. - Well it's not really fun shooting eh.

To be effective you need to regularly train with a firearm - one that suites YOU - so that you can achieve consistent hits at varying ranges to your best ability. - One that isn't painful to shoot.

The 5x5 Shooting Drill is simple.  Five rounds shot in five seconds from five yards at a five inch circle.

Hanging a laser-light underneath .. screwing an electronic sight on-top - and stuffing a silencer in front may not improve your performance.
