NZ Defence Forces Go GLOCK:

The New Zealand Defence Forces website has stated that they are to adopt the Glock 17 Gen.4 and replace their current issue Sig Sauer P226 pistols next year.

Australian company NAIO Nominees Pty has been awarded the $1.8M contract (why?) to supply approx. 1,900 of this latest version of the Glock 9mm NATO pistol.

The Sigs entered into service in 1992 and are due to be replaced in 2016 with the Glocks. The deal includes "ancillaries and lifetime support."

This deal works-out at slightly under NZ$950. per unit - I note that 'Guns NZ' have this same Gen 4 model offered for retail sale at NZ$899. Including 15% GST .. that is NZ$781.74 ex. GST.. without any discount for bulk purchase.

Our armed services sure know a bargain when they see one - never mind - it's only tax-payers money. Again, we do seem to have a lot of people taking the wages but not doing the job.
