Violent Nutters - Overcrowding As Behavioral Stress:

What noise annoys an oyster?  .. Any noise annoys an oyster - but a noisy noise annoys an oyster most.

 - MOTORWAY NOISE ..

This is true in general terms (but may incorrectly be attributed to Dr Seuss). - High noise levels are known to be both damaging to physical health and to affect psychological behavior by creating annoyance & anger.
What Noise?

A parallel effect results from overcrowding .. we have known this since rat & mice experiments by John B Calhoun between 1958 and 1972 - plus many other studies that have shown stress & aberrant behavior .. called a BEHAVIORAL SINK.

- Would you think that city life in grotty damp small thin walled apartments combined with traffic noise, pollution, gridlock, - overloaded public transport systems, - pavements covered in shit & vomit etc .. amounts to overcrowding that causes antisocial behavior?

There's a phrase used in the computer world "CRAP IN - CRAP OUT" (properly Garbage in -Garbage out) - this surely applies to city inmates lives. - If you inter Donnie's "poorly educated" in garbage dump ghettos .. you shouldn't be surprised when they start to fall apart and smell.

Perhaps drug use and alcohol ARE indeed signs of self medication for stress relief.

Guy in striped top & light bluejeans has been knifed in the stomach.

.. Something is causing behavioral changes.
The miserable scungy environment might be relevant ...

New Pistol From Mossberg - MC1sc:

100 years after their first pistol (.. The Brownie) - Mossberg have rushed into your nearest friendly gun shop in US with their second well thought-out sub-compact pistol:

It looks good for carry in USA - AND it takes Glock 43 magazines if you prefer them over Mossberg's own see-through design. - I wonder if that works the other way .. do the Mossberg  see-through magazines function fully in the Glock 43?

Early Experts are opining that the MC1sc works well in a slightly "snappy" way .. as you'd expect from a small carry gun in a full power 9 mm caliber. - There won't be many - if any coming to New Zealand as the 3.4 inch barrel is a little disadvantaged in the tumescence of it's tissues. Shame about that eh. - TFB thinks it has a 2.75-3.50 inch barrel - but the makers say it's 3.4 inches.

https://www.mossberg.com/category/series/mc1sc/

This new Mossberg MC1 auto pistol is presented in five flavors .. Standard, Cross-Bolt-Safety, Red-Dot Laser, Tritium-Night-Sights, and a "Centennial-Limited Edition" is mentioned.

Looks reasonable to me - and it should work when needed - check-out TFB's range session review:

- Why would the NZ Police Firearms Office think that negative 0.6" barrel length short of 4 inches, - reduced capacity and velocities of a subcompact - make a gun forbidden?

Standard Manufacturing S333 Double-Barrel Revolver:

This interesting development of their 'pepper-pot' guns is classed as a "volley fire" - as each pull of the trigger fires two .22" Magnum rounds .. from the eight round steel cylinder.
- So this 'aircraft grade' 7075 aluminum framed revolver has two barrels and two firing pins .. but only one trigger that features a "Glock Style" trigger safety - this early sample trigger accommodates two fingers.

 - Being able to use two fingers to fire this small revolver may make it a good choice for people having limited hand strength from injury or arthritis etc.

That grip shape appears to be an advanced 'ergonomic' feature too .. it should help minimize felt recoil.
- That 'two-finger' feature reminds me of the early squeeze cocker pocket guns. - LINK:

.. I think that palm pistols & squeeze-cockers are both fascinating and beautiful ..

I'm intrigued by this design as I love the concept of "duplex loads" anyway. - This eight chamber cylinder in .22" WMR releases TWO rounds for each shot. - The twin barrels are only 1.25 inches long so I would expect velocities to be under 900 feet per second and rather loud.
The big question hanging is build standards .. The quoted price is US$369 which is reasonable provided these are reliable and workmanlike.
Standard Manufacturing of New Britain, Connecticut, plan to have these ready for this years SHOT Show. - It will be important for them to offer a quality product.

P.S. I'd like to "put in a plug" here (unpaid) for the GRIP Master  hand strengtheners.
These really work to exercise & maintain your grip strength and come in a range of different power levels.
- very useful for pistol shooters. - I have used one for years now and it's stayed "like new".

Political Hacks - Pick Your Favorite Cliches:

- May I take this opportunity to offend any 'p.c.' non-specific genders who are here accidentally .. by repeating my long term favorite joke:

Did you hear about the dyslexic, insomniac, agnostic ? - He (she or it) lay awake all night wondering if there really was a DOG.

Whenever I hear a politician or other overpaid 'fat-cat' use the phrase "moving forward" - or "..That's a very good question" - I know that this is another lying prick trying to 'spin' and push aside the truth.

- These phrases are two political escape hatches used to duck under the facts - and they are becoming so worn & tired .. no doubt due soon to be dropped & replaced by some other inventive lying executive side-step.
Old Chestnuts?

These are standard operating procedures used by the professionals (WE pay them) to wriggle out of trouble and to deflect problem facts - while giving them time to "move forward" in a different direction.

In the shooting world there are also too many old chestnuts still rattling about ..

Bring enough gun.

I'd rather be tried by twelve than carried by six.

- From my cold dead hands.

When guns are outlawed - only outlaws will have guns.

Guns don't kill people - people kill people.

The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun - is a good guy with a gun.

The first rule of gun fighting - Have a gun.

When seconds count - police are only minutes away. (Typical US City response time is 11 minutes.)

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

Gun control means using both hands.

- Here is one that I like:

An armed man is a citizen - an unarmed man is a subject.

And another one .. "Extracting UK from the EU is like trying to remove the egg from a baked cake." - I really like that one 😃.

Of course there is some truth in cliches .. but relying on them to prove a point is lazy and avoids having to think.

ENEWETAK - A Nuclear Clean-up Job For Donnie Trump:

Most Kiwis will remember protesting about French toxic nuclear weapon testing on MURUROA in the 1970s - We even sent two frigates Canterbury and Otago to protest and witness the atmospheric blasts. - French DGSE intelligence agents then bombed and sank the Greenpeace protest vessel Rainbow Warrior in Auckland Harbor. But ..
10 July 1985 RAINBOW WARRIOR
Sunk By France In Auckland Harbor.

The USA retained control of the Marshall Islands after the end of WWII - calling this beautiful marine paradise THE TRUST TERRITORY OF THE PACIFIC ISLANDS.

Remember that word trust.  - They promptly set about exploding 43 massive nuclear devices on the remote islands from 1946 to 1958. - You probably will know the name of Bikini Atoll - but how about 'Runit' ?

The United States of America relocated the small populations of islanders before destroying their homes .. the military even dug-up their dead Pacific War soldiers for re-internment before H-Bombing and completely vaporizing some small pacific islands from the map.

Watch this short Australian Doco film. LINK:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=autMHvj3exA

Runit Island was not only repeatedly nuked - but it was also used as a dump for plutonium scattered from a failed US H-Bomb .. together with 95,000 cubic yards of contaminated materials, thrown into a crater and covered with a low concrete dome.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runit_Island

Daily Mail Picture of RUNIT ISLAND DOME.

Marshall Islanders call this ugly poisonous radioactive site THE TOMB. - But they may not realize that the surrounding soil and sea is just as deadly as the covered nuclear garbage.

These heavily contaminated island test sites continue to kill both locals and US veterans today - including those servicemen ordered to 'clean up' the crap. - Some memorial tomb eh.

________________

Here is a sick joke .. following the TRINITY nuclear bomb test in 1945 at Alamogordo New Mexico, - samples of greenish glassy residue called "Trinitite" were collected by scavengers and sold as specimens .. even made into radioactive jewelry for a fast buck.

- Formed from desert sand drawn up into the fireball the atomsite sand was fused into liquid glass before raining back to the earth as 'trinitite'.

7.65 / 7.63 Mannlicher:

Do not read this if you confuse easily.

- The 7.65 x 21 mm Mannlicher rounds were designed in 1901 in Austria-Hungary and were known there as the 7.63 Mannlicher cartridge - but in Germany as the 7.65 Mannlicher Cartridge. - The cartridge is said to use bullets of .308" diameter (7.82 mm).

- The different semi-rimmed .32" ACP aka 7.62 x17 mm Browning Short from around the same date is 4mm shorter in the brass. - and it uses bullets measuring .3125" (7.94mm) and is correspondingly fatter in the brass. - So this smaller metric designated caliber is actually bigger.

7.65 / 7.63 Mannlicher ..
A Metric Cartridge With Imperial Measurements

- Neither of these should be thought of in the same breath as the 7.63x25 mm MAUSER cartridge which is a bottle-necked cartridge whose bullets measure .309" .. 7.86 mm .. So that's clear.
7.63mm Mauser Has 7.86mm Bullets.

This Mannlicher cartridge (not the bloody Mauser round nor the Browning 'Short' /.32ACP) - was designed for use with the Steyr-Mannlicher M1901 Pistol ..which ended up being fed from the top by stripper clips despite at two development stages M1896 & M1897/01 having a box magazine forward of the trigger.
It started with M1896 - passed through M1887/01
 - became the M1899 - before finishing-up as the M1901

- Well anyway - it seems that they gave one (an M1899) - to Kaiser William II in the hope that he'd help sell them .. TFB seems a little excited about that.
The Kaiser's Prezzie.

- As a grandson of Queen Victoria, Kaiser Wilhelm II was a first cousin of the future English King George V, as well as of queens Marie of Romania, Maud of Norway, Victoria Eugenie of Spain, and the Empress Alexandra of Russia. - Full name Friedrich Wilhelm Viktor Albert Hohenzollem .. Kaiser William II  - this total nutter died in Holland in 1941.
End of story - I do hope that you enjoyed that 😄😄
Marty K.
Hi Marty
Don’t fall into the trap of expecting cartridge designations to accurately describe the cartridge.  At best they are merely nominal, and there is no official standard.  The closest system is the metric caliber and case length (5.56x45, 7.62x51, etc) but even that has is faults.  Think of cartridge designations as marketing tools rather than accurate descriptions.  Correct cartridge identification is a ‘dark art’ after years of study!

Cheers, Rod
Yus - for sure.

Law Enforcement Horror Stories:

I thought that this passage from Chiron Training Volume 2 was worth showing you.

100%
09 FEB 2006
Nothing works 100% of the time. That's one of the things that is so true to the initiates as to be not worth mentioning ... and so incomprehensible to the theorists as to be invisible. "A .45 acp with FMJ.... "A neighboring jurisdiction had a guy take five and still try to crawl after the officer.

A local here was shot between the eyes from less than five feet and it bounced off his skull and lodged in the ceiling.

"It's shot placement- if you know how to hit what you're aiming at..." We use a training tape called "Ultimate Survivors" which describes a bad day in Baton Rouge. By the end of it one officer, Lisa Lawrence, was dead and her partner had almost been beaten to death. The assailant had ten bullets in his chest and head from duty revolvers- .38 special or .357. After a contact shot to the solar plexus, the threat grunted, "That was a good one," and threw the officer across the room. He'd also taken an armpit to armpit perforation. The officer placed his revolver against the threat's forehead and testified that he saw the carpet through the hole he blew in the back of the threat's skull... and the threat got up and tried to attack again.

Note: Don’t know where I got the carpet line. What the officer actually said was, “I fired a round through the top of his head. And I remember looking at it and seeing a hole through his head.”

Miller, Rory. Chiron Training Volume 2: 2006 (Kindle Locations 363-374). Kindle Edition.

Horror Stories. - My only comment (after my brain eased-back down) - can only be to observe, that while handguns are potentially lethal and can be highly injurious - their effectiveness is way less than a long-arm such as a 12 Gauge shotgun or a full power center-fire rifle.
